"What are you laughing at?" Incremental processing of laughter in interaction

Abstract:
In dialogue, laughter is frequent and can precede, follow or overlap what is laughed at. In this paper, we provide a preliminary, but unitary formal account of how forward- and backward-looking laughter are processed and integrated within the Dynamic Syntax framework.
